Gum stains on clothes prove quite challenging and stubborn to clean but are easily solvable once the right methods are applied. Gum can be removed from fabrics in many effective ways. In this guide, different techniques will be described to help you get rid of gum on your clothing without leaving any sticky traces or damaging the fabric. Our guidelines will be more elaborate and include different techniques suitable for your garments.
1. Remove the gum with ice
Take an ice cube or a freezer pack, now all you have to do is place the ice cube on top of the gum and allow it to stay there for about twenty minutes.
Put another ice cube below the gum.
Like that, the gum will be frozen and hardened.
After this is frozen and hard, now, take a dull knife, credit card, paint scraper, or spoon, and scrape off the gum.
After the gum has been scraped off, clean the garment in the normal way.
2. Use vinegar to remove the gum
In a microwavable bowl, add one cup of white spirit vinegar.
For approximately one-minute heating or until the vinegar gets hot.
Prepare an old toothbrush, put it in the warm vinegar solution and scrub it gently on the chewing gum.
The acid will dissolve the gum and make it easy for you to remove it from your clothes.
Then wash your garment normally with the help of the regular capsules available for washing the garments.
3. Remove gum with an iron
Take a piece of cardboard then lay it on the ironing board.
Ensure that the iron is set at its standard heat or in this case a medium heat.
Place your clothing on the chewing gum with the face downwards on the cardboard sheet.
Iron on the back of your clothing.
The heat dry will melt the gum and then stick on the cardboard through the heat created by the process.
Carefully pull your clothes off the gum so that the gum remains stuck to the cardboard base all the time.
If you do the steps again use a new piece of cardboard each time.
4. Remove gum with steam
Heat your kettle until it reaches boiling point.
Place the sticky part of your clothing over the kettle's nozzle.
Keep the gum close to the steam without placing it directly above it.
The gum will be melted by the heat.
Remove it carefully as it begins to soften.
Continue doing this until there is no more gum remaining.
5. Clean the gum with more gum
Surprisingly, when it comes to clearing up a sticky mess you can turn to gum as something that can act to your advantage.
If the gum has stuck to a surface you stick another wad of chewed gum which has been chewed or a piece of duct tape and pull off the gum.
Place the chewed gum or tape directly onto the gum that is stuck to prevent getting stickier substances on nearby fabric areas.
Carefully remove the gum from the fabric.
6. Remove gum with alcohol
Take a cotton tipped swab and damp it with rubbing alcohol and rub the gum area.
Let the alcohol penetrate and air-dry.
This will be done in less than one minute.
Pull strips of the duct tape to remove the wad.
7. Use Hairdryer to remove gum
Put your clothing on a flat surface.
Take a hairdryer, point it towards the gum, and switch it on.
Turn the dryer away every few seconds so that it will prevent clothing from overheating.
Once the gum reaches a sufficient temperature, the gum will start to soften and melt.
Remove it carefully as it begins to melt.
After removing it, wash your garment normally with a laundry capsule.
