Nothing is as heartbreaking as having wax fall on one of your best outfits, by accident you can imagine the drama. But let me tell you, it is quite simple to get wax out of fabric that will plague your mind forever. It is possible to clean the garment and get it to its initial quality without a chance of spoiling the material with the right techniques. It is always a good thing to have a clear understanding of what you are doing and what you are likely to encounter when tackling wax stains. Well, this guide will start from pre-treating the stain to air drying, so you will be in a position to know what to do to eliminate even the hard wax stain.

Supplies & tools

  • Oxygen bleach (optional).

  • Stain treatment or detergent.

  • Hot water.

  • Paper towels.

  • Iron.

  • Spoon or butter knife.

Step1: Pretreat the Clothes

You have to wait until the wax dries, most of it can be taken out. Before washing it, scrape the object with a spoon or a butter knife to remove much of the wax. This is the best solution and it enables you to remove the upper layers of the wax. If you make one wrong move, you could easily poke a hole in fabrics that are usually referred to as delicate. When dealing with somewhat tender fabrics such as silk, then it's proper to skim the surface using a spoon without digging in.

Step2: Iron wax stain

At the end of the process, you are only left with the wax that sticks to the cloth's fibers. The idea is to warm the wax and give it a chance to transfer onto another material, for example, a paper towel or a blotting paper. Put the stained part of the clothes face down on a clean paper towel then follow by placing another paper towel over the affected part. Afterward, take it and iron it on low heat over the paper towel in order to lift the stain. Repeat this process until no more wax is transferred to the paper towels.

Step3: Soak The item

Pretreat the affected area by applying stain treatment or detergent on the remaining wax-affected area of your garment. As per the care label of your garment, use 2 cups of the hottest water which is safe for the fabric, and fill a basin or sink. Then make sure to soak your garment for 1 hour. After that, wash under warm running water to remove the detergent that you had applied to the item to avoid making too many suds in your washing machine.

Step4: Machine wash

Select the heavy soil setting on your washing machine and put your clothes in. Wash the clothes with a standard detergent and the warmest water recommended on the care label for the fabrics. Wash the clothes using the right wash setting.

If there is still color from the wax on the fabric, consider putting a few drops of oxygen bleach in the wash basket. Oxygen bleach, therefore, is not as detrimental as chlorine bleach to the colors of fabrics or materials.

Step5: Air dry

Lastly, hang the item to enable it to dry adequately. Any stain that may be undetectable when the fabric is wet will be permanently there when the fabric is dry, thanks to the heat from a dryer. In case you notice that the stain has not disappeared after it dries, go through the following instructions on how many times they are needed until the stain is fully removed.

Removing wax from your fabrics does not need to be something exhausting. The procedures that you have to follow to eliminate wax stains and to get your garments to the initial state include pre-treating, ironing and soaking, washing, and air-drying.
